    In 1920, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) was founded as one of China’s earliest universities known for technology and is now a member of China’s ‘Ivy League’ (C9 League). Through its history in the century, HIT has accomplished many firsts such as the first to build a micro-satellite, the first university to independently develop a small satellite, the first in China to achieve satellite-ground laser link communication and the first to reveal the structure of a ligase complex in the HIV virus. According to US News 2017-2020, HIT has been ranking as the World’s Top 10 Universities for Engineering in the past four years.

    In this collection, HIT’s scientists shed light into optical sciences and technologies, including high-performance nanoscale position-sensitive detector based on the lateral photoelectrical effect, distributed ultrafast optical fiber measurement to benefit the infrastructure monitoring and geophysical sensing, all-dielectric metasurface solution for high performance structural color with the potential of mass-manufacturability, all-optical dynamic control of lead halide perovskite microlasers, non-linear resonance in lead halide perovskite metasurfaces for optical encoding and color nanoprinting, pseudospin-induced chirality with staggered optical graphene, and high integration density mode-division multiplexing for arbitrarily routed circuits.

    This historic university from China is extending its tradition of excellence into the future and its optics and photonics researches will be enlightened by Light.
